What Design Trends are out from 2023

Ivory boucle - personally I have waited so long for this trend to go! Boucle (if done cheaply) can wear really easily, having the odd cushion will always remain in vogue but large statement pieces are a bit ubiquitous and we’re wanting personalised homes.

Instagram blue-prints - homes that look like very other home on instagram, that look unloved. Whilst it’s great our homes are looking more fabulous and we’re getting inspiration as to how we can do our own these days, a lot of them are copy pastes of each other, so really think how can you bring your personality into your home.

Fast furniture - much like fast fashion has been on the way out, as is fast furniture. We’re liking more statement pieces that are to endure a lifetime, we’re having fewer furniture pieces but with a more expensive price tag. We don’t want pieces that are going with a trend, we want a piece that we love, that will stand the test of time and we won’t get bored of, so investing is key, as is making sure we’re not throwing away furniture as we want to be as sustainable as possible.

Minimalism - I’m the first person to admit I’d like my home to look like a museum, however rooms with one piece of furniture in it look sterile. Whilst organisation and storage out of eye line are a key ongoing trend, we want warmth, layers, textures in 2024, we want a house to be a home. Think of the 60/40 rule - have the room 60% full of furniture, but no more, much less than 40% unfurnished leaves us with a. Sense of unfriendly emptiness, but more than 60% can make us feel cluttered and leave unclear pathways around the room.
